Evidence shows structured physiotherapy is essential after total knee replacement, with strengthening and range-of-motion exercises (including knee straightening) improving function and mobility, especially in the first 6-12 weeks.
Progressive resistance training further enhances strength and walking ability, while hydrotherapy improves mobility and knee movement compared to land-based rehab alone.
Services may attract a rebate from Private Health, or Medicare with an appropriate referral.
